Mark was born in Newtownards and spent most of his childhood in Dromara, County Down , also living for a short time in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He has lived in the Balmoral electoral area since 2001. He has been married to Nicola since 2005.
In his spare time, Mark enjoys cooking, walking, swimming, reading and music. He enjoys playing guitar and bass guitar as long as no one is around to hear him.
